Due to International Support Two Presidents Locked in a Fight

(NFL jerseys)Roberto Micheletti, a 63-year-old businessman and stalwart Liberal Party member, took the oath of office Sunday to replace another Liberal politician, Manuel Zelaya, 56, a rich rancher who was deposed in a predawn raid that day and exiled to Costa Rica.

Mr. Zelaya is a tall man who sports a trademark Stetson. He studied industrial engineering, but dropped out of college to manage his family’s ranches. He served in Congress before running for president in 2006 on a populist platform that blasted the rich and promised to fight crime, corruption and poverty.

Once in power, Mr. Zelaya, who said he had been ignored by the U.S., made a sharp left turn, becoming a close ally and confidant of Venezuela’s populist President Hugo Chávez and Cuba’s Fidel Castro.

Mr. Chávez sent tractors and provided Honduras with financing to buy Venezuelan oil. Last year, as Mr. Chávez promised to supply $300 million in aid to Honduras, Mr. Zelaya made the country a member of the Bolivarian Alternative of the Americas, known by its Spanish acronym ALBA, a trade and political bloc formed by Mr. Chávez to counter U.S. influence in the region. Honduras also has been a member of the U.S.-sponsored Central American Free Trade Agreement, or CAFTA, since 2005.

Mr. Zelaya’s friendships with Mr. Chávez, Mr. Castro, and Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, coupled with his apparent desire to continue in office by rewriting the constitution — as Mr. Chávez has done — put him in direct conflict with Honduras’s Congress, courts, and military. He alienated the media when he dictated that radio and TV stations had to broadcast two hours of government propaganda daily. Businessmen didn’t like measures including a 60% increase in the minimum wage early this year.

Last week, the president insisted on holding a referendum on rewriting the constitution, which critics feared could have led to overturning Honduras’s constitutional ban on re-election. That led to Mr. Zelaya’s forced removal that shocked the region, bringing back bad memories of decades past when it was common for soldiers to make and unmake presidents.

Mr. Micheletti, as president of the Congress, pinned the presidential sash on Mr. Zelaya during his 2006 inauguration. Now he has the almost impossible task of winning international support for his administration until he can be replaced after presidential elections, which already had been scheduled for November.

On Monday, Mr. Micheletti was hard at work. He insisted Mr. Zelaya’s ouster was no coup. “We did not arrive at the presidency with thoughts of vengeance,” he told reporters. “We must seek the unity of Hondurans.”

Mr. Micheletti calls himself a “right-wing progressive” and says he is a good friend of the U.S., which he said has always helped Honduras. Mr. Micheletti has served in political and party posts in five Liberal governments.

A soldier in his youth, he was part of the honor guard of then-President Ramón Villeda Morales, who was overthrown in 1963 by a coup that marked the beginning of almost two decades of military domination of Honduran politics. In the aftermath of that coup, Mr. Micheletti spent some time in prison.

As a rancher and businessman who owns transport companies, Mr. Micheletti had a strained relationship with Mr. Zelaya, whose leftward tilt he opposed.

Mr. Micheletti said in an interview that he is worried by Honduras’s current isolation, and made a plea for understanding from Latin American governments and especially the U.S. “If [the U.S.] does not recognize us, it would be condemning to failure the aspirations of Hondurans,” he said.

If Mr. Zelaya were to return, Mr. Micheletti said, he would have to face the courts on charges of violating the constitution.

Hondurans awoke Monday in a country with two presidents. One, adjusting to his second day of exile, is still recognized by countries around the world. The other, who enjoys the strong backing of all of Honduras’s major institutions, has quickly become a diplomatic pariah.

English club Manchester City made “stratospheric” offer to Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o

City make monster nfl jerseys Eto’o offer

A fee of around 30million euros is expected to see the two clubs agree to do business, with Cameroon ace Eto’o to be tempted by a massive salary offer from the Citizens.

Barca president Joan Laporta told Catalan radio station iCat FM: “Eto’o has a stratospheric offer from City, which would convert him into the best paid player in the world.

“It’s starting to become clear that he has this monster offer. He wants to stay, but an offer like this is very difficult to refuse.

“If Eto’o accepts this stratospheric offer we will have to bring in someone else.”

The 28-year-old, who has one year left on his contract with the Spanish and European champions, has long been linked with the Premier League club.

He has previously said that a move to City did not interest him, but the club’s billionaire owner Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is determined to finance a deal for the player, who scored 36 goals in Barca’s treble-winning season.

Laporta believes that Eto’o will not be able to turn down such a huge pay package, despite being in negotiations over a new contract at the Nou Camp.

“Eto’o has a stratospheric offer from City, which would convert him into the best paid player in the world,” Laporta told Catalan radio station iCat FM.

“It’s starting to become clear that he has this monster offer. He wants to stay but an offer like this is very difficult to refuse.

“If Eto’o accepts this stratospheric offer we will have to bring in someone.”

City manager Mark Hughes has already brought in England midfielder Gareth Barry in a $20 million deal and signed Paraguay striker Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn for a reported $30 million.

The Eastlands outfit are also expected to sign Carlos Tevez from city rivals Manchester United after the Argentina forward decided not to accept a new contract with the Premier League champions.

United had agreed to pay the required $42 million to make Tevez’s loan deal permanent, and also offered the player a five-year contract, but he opted to leave Old Trafford, saying he did not feel wanted by the club.

City hope that Eto’o and Tevez will link up with Brazil star Robinho, who was lured to Manchester from Real Madrid last August in a $58 million deal when he had appeared set to join Chelsea.

Eto’o has scored 125 goals in 184 games for Barcelona since joining from bitter rivals Real Madrid for €24 million (now worth $33.7 million) in 2004, having been on loan with Mallorca for the previous two seasons.

Manchester City have made a ’stratospheric offer’ in their attempts to sign striker Samuel Eto’o from European champions Barcelona.

Venus powers on as Ana Ivanovic quits in tears

Ivanovic made a fair start, forcing three break points in the opening game, but in no time at all was 5-0 down. The world No 12 has one of the biggest forehands in the game, but she had no answer to the power of the defending champion, who pulled her from side to side with pounding groundstrokes, getting into the net to finish off the points whenever she could. Ivanovic’s serve, meanwhile, looked in tatters. Time after time she had to halt her serve in mid-flow after failing to get her ball toss right.

(NFL jerseys blog)Nineteen-year-old German Lisicki gained a 6-4 6-4 win over world number nine Caroline Wozniacki, of Denmark.

Serbia’s former world number one lost the first set 6-1 against third-seeded American rival Williams and was serving in the first game of the second when she was forced to stop because of a thigh problem.

Thirteenth-seed Ivanovic returned to court after treatment to win the game, but then quit the match — handing Williams a place in the last eight in a highly-emotional moment.

“It’s very disappointing, especially because I felt my form was getting better and better. It’s really frustrating,” Ivanovic told media while still struggling to regain her composure.

“The most disappointing thing is I felt like I wasn’t given a fair chance to fight. All of a sudden I felt pain after a serve. I didn’t feel anything up until that point.

“Over past few days I have felt muscle tightness, but that was normal after playing so much on the grass.

“I was serving at 30-40 down and when I landed I just felt a sharp pain on my inner thigh and I couldn’t step on my leg ever since.”

Williams now faces Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska, the 11th seed, as she bids to become the first woman to lift three successive Wimbledon singles’ titles since Steffi Graf from 1991 to 1993.

Sister Serena, the second seed and a two-time Wimbledon champion, joined Venus in the last eight with a 6-3 6-1 victory over Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova.

Williams turned up the heat in the first set when her family belatedly took their seats having been on Court One watching Venus. Serena opened a 4-0 lead in the second and took the match in just under an hour.

She now meets eight-seeded Belarusian Victoria Azarenka who battled to beat 10th-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova 7-6 2-6 6-3.

Five-time Wimbledon champion Venus has yet to drop a set in this year’s event and has extended her winning streak at the All England Club to 18 matches.

Radwanska, a quarterfinalist last year, triumphed 6-4 7-5 against American teenager Melanie Oudin who had to qualify for the main draw.

Elena Dementieva, semifinalist a year ago, hardly broke sweat as temperatures soared, the fourth seed defeating fellow Russian blonde Elena Vesnina 6-1 6-3 in 70 minutes on Court 2.

Dementieva, making her 11th Wimbledon appearance, never looked back after wrapping up the first set inside 29 minutes and now encounters either France’s Virginie Razzano or Italy’s Francesca Schiavone for a place in the semifinals.

World number one Dinara Safina, who has yet to win a Grand Slam title, faced 2006 champion Amelie Mauresmo on Centre Court — and Wimbledon’s new roof was shut for the first time during their match when rain fell midway through the second set.

Russian Safina of Russia was trailing at the time having lost the first set. But the top seed recovered for a 4-6 6-3 6-4 win and a last-eight meeting with Sabine Lisicki.

Fourth-round rival Ana Ivanovic in tears after quitting match through injury. It is a pity. But it is game. Game is crucial. When it finishes, some one laughs some one cries. He who laughs last laughs best! Congratulations for Lisicki, and feel pity for Ana Ivanovic.

Wimbledon -Murray wins thriller

The 2002 champion looked down and out before hitting back to win 4-6 2-6 6-1 6-2 6-2. He faces a heavyweight clash with Andy Roddick for a semi-final spot after the American’s surprisingly straightforward straight-sets removal of Czech Tomas Berdych.

Fans clambered into precarious positions to catch a glimpse as the drama unfolded on the intimate court four, where the 2008 French Open champion struggled to contain the ambitious Czech’s lethal double-handed backhand in a 5-7 6-2 8-6 victory.

The 26-year-old Hradecka, whose left thigh was strapped, had a determined air about her as she made the 13th seed’s shots look as flimsy as the wispy layers of the Serb’s skirt.

The Czech pumped her fists in celebration as Ivanovic’s backhand went long to hand her the first set on her first appearance in the main draw at Wimbledon.

The 21-year-old Serb, a semi-finalist here in 2007, swapped her racket at 2-2 in the second which seemed to do the trick as she immediately broke and did not drop another game in the set.

Ivanovic, who looked to be tossing the ball slightly out of line before serving, broke in the ninth game of the decider.

She was then serving for the match but Hradecka fired another unreachable backhand to save match point.

After breaking, the Czech then held and earned two match points of her own but Ivanovic smashed her way out of trouble.

Two games later, the Serb looked up to the sky in thanks after a lucky net cord set her up with two more match points and she snatched victory when Hradecka’s service return went wide.

Ivanovic, who has slipped from top of the rankings to 12th over the past year after some indifferent performances, will face Italian Sara Errani for a place in the third round.

Haas, seeded 24, and who saved two match points in his third round marathon victory over Croatia’s Marin Cilic, next faces Serbian fourth seed Novak Djokovic who ousted Israel’s Dudi Sela in straight sets.

Lleyton Hewitt showed all his fighting spirit as he battled back from two sets down to defeat Radek Stepanek 4-6 2-6 6-1 6-2 6-2 in their fourth-round match on Court Two.

Hewitt had not dropped a set in his first three matches but, apparently struggling with a thigh problem, he was decidedly second best in the opening two sets.

Stepanek, who had been a doubt to start because of a knee problem, looked in control but he faded badly, winning only five games in the final three sets as his Australian rival prevailed.

The 28-year-old Hewitt, champion in 2002, will face sixth seed Andy Roddick, who defeated Tomas Berdych in straight sets. Roddick took one hour, 48 minutes to defeat the Czech 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, 6-3.

Roddick served 24 aces during his match, and did not offer a single break point. Roddick is the only U.S. men’s player to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon during the past four years.

In sweltering conditions at the All England Club, Federer seemed content to take a cautious approach, allowing his opponent to dictate the rallies from the baseline with his powerful groundstrokes.

But the world number two finally stepped up a gear when required to break Soderling’s previously dominant serve in the ninth game, taking advantage of a double fault and forehand error for a 5-4 lead before serving out for the set.

Soderling, who had lost all 10 of his previous matches against the Swiss, was unable to exert any pressure on Federer’s serve in the second which was decided on a tie-break.

But he had a chance in the third set tie-break when he led 5-4 with two serves to come, only for Federer to produce a brilliant forehand winner.

Soderling then served a double fault to gift Federer his first match point and he gratefully accepted to seal a hard-fought victory.

Andy Murray survived a five-set thriller on Monday to defeat Stanislas Wawrinka and advance to the Wimbledon quarterfinals.Roger Federer in Wimbledon last eight as he chases 15th Grand Slam crown.Former world number one Ana Ivanovic had to save two match points against unheralded Lucie Hradecka to reach the Wimbledon second round on Tuesday.Congratulations! Michael Jackson’s legacy Honor star-studded BET Awards

Even on the red carpet, the talk is about Michael Jackson.
Joe Jackson , the singer’s father, was on hand to represent the family. “I just wish he could be here to celebrate himself,” he said. “Sadly, he’s not here, so I’m here to celebrate for him.”

Already an affair of major star wattage, the night’s show was thrown under a white-hot spotlight in the wake of Jackson’s death Thursday, adding attendees and guests, doubling the number of media requests and even lengthening the red carpet to accommodate all who want to take part.

“No need to be sad. We want to celebrate this black man … We gonna go through all of Michael Jackson,” said Foxx, who came out on stage and re-enacted the choreography from Jackson’s iconic “Beat It” video in front of the star-studded crowd, on its feet from the start of the show.

“There was one thing that this man did that I always wanted to do, and I’m gonna do it tonight. I’m gonna moonwalk,” he said. “I hope I can make it.”

It wasn’t perfect, but it captured the memories of Jackson that the A-list audience shared.

Black Entertainment Television CEO Debra Lee said Sunday’s show will be dedicated to Jackson and pay tribute to his legacy.

“Michael’s influence is felt every day in so many ways at BET Networks, and it’s been that way throughout our network’s entire 29-year history,” she said.

“We watched him grow up and, like everyone around the world, he feels like he is a member of our family.

“He will be missed more than we can say … but his legend and memory live on in the artists, musicians, producers, dancers, fans and everyone else who looks to him for inspiration.”

“We all know none of us in this in this room wouldn’t be here for Michael Jackson,” said Lil Wayne, as he picked up his award for best male hip-hop star.

“My heart and prayers go out to the whole Jackson family,” said basketball star LeBron James, who won best male athlete. “What they did for us, … for the whole world was amazing.”

The BET Awards became the official Michael Jackson TV celebration on Sunday, with joyous tributes to the King of Pop from a New Edition medley of Jackson 5 songs to host Jamie Foxx’s tender monologue delivered in that classic red leather zipper jacket and white glove. The star-studded BET Awards got under way without “the greatest star in the world,” Joe Jackson, father of the late Michael Jackson, said on Sunday night. Cristiano Ronaldo agrees six-year Real Madrid deal

Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a six-year contract with Real Madrid and will complete his world record £80million move from Manchester United to Real Madrid  on July 1.—NFL jerseys blog shares

Ronaldo: Will complete move on July 1

Ronaldo: Will complete move on July 1

A statement on Real’s website read: “The player will be tied to Real Madrid for the next six seasons.”He will be presented on 6 July at the Santiago Bernabeu.”

Ronaldo was on holiday in the United States at the time the offer was made by Real, on 10 June.

During that time, United stated that the decision came at the Portugal international’s request after he “again expressed his desire to leave”.

The Old Trafford club said the offer was unconditional and wanted the matter to be concluded by 30 June.

The addition of Ronaldo to the Real ranks is part of a remarkable spending spree by the Spanish giants since Florentino Perez returned as club president on 1 June.

He brought in Brazil playmaker Kaka for a then-world record £56m, then Ronaldo for £80m before signing centre-back Raul Albiol from Valencia for £12m, to bring Real’s total summer spend, so far, to £148m.

Perez appointed Villarreal boss Manuel Pellegrini as Real’s new coach, and had previously made it clear he would do “everything possible” to sign Ronaldo.

Reports have suggested that the midfielder will earn about £11m per year, which will make him the highest paid footballer in the world. He was on about £6.38m at Old Trafford.

The current top earner is understood to be Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is on about £10m per year.

Despite the vast outgoings, Madrid have also been linked with Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso, Valencia’s David Villa and Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery.

It has been a completely different story this summer though, with Perez, who masterminded the arrival of David Beckham from Old Trafford in 2003, quickly smoothing over any existing problems with United and agreeing a deal for Ronaldo.

Ronaldo, who has never made a secret of his dream to one day play for Madrid, joined United back in 2003 from Sporting Lisbon for £12.24million and was given the number seven shirt vacated by Beckham.

He won the FA Cup in his first season and, though he impressed with his skills, was often criticised for a lack of end product.

In the 2006-07 season he won his first Premier League title, and also claimed the PFA Young Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards.

But it was the 2007-08 season which defined him as one of the greatest players in the world game.

He scored 42 goals in all competitions, including the opener in the Champions League final win over Chelsea, as United claimed a domestic and European double.

That year brought with it the Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Player of the Year awards.

Whilst Ronaldo this year did not quite hit the heights of his last campaign, he again impressed as United won the Premier League and Club World Cup.

Aside from Ronaldo and Kaka, Madrid have also brought in Manuel Pellegrini as coach this summer and on Thursday clinched the signing of Valencia defender Raul Albiol for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around 15million euros (£12.8million).

To accommodate all the new arrivals Madrid also know they must let some players go and on Friday evening they also announced they had reached an agreement with Benfica that will see Javier Saviola move to the Portuguese club.

Saviola joined Madrid from Barcelona in 2007 but has been little more than a bit-part player at the Bernabeu, starting less than 20 league games during his two seasons at the club.

The 27-year-old Argentina international has also played for Sevilla and Monaco in Europe having moved to Barcelona from River Plate in 2001.

United confirmed earlier this month they had accepted a world-record bid from the Primera Division side and the two clubs have now finalised an agreement for the Portugal winger’s transfer. Ronaldo was the top scorer for his club last season, with 26 goals, taking his total for United to 118 in 292 appearances. No matter where he is, hope he will performe well. Good guy! Brazil survive scare against USA to win Confed Cup

It was Brazil’s third Confederations Cup triumph, having also won in 1997, and represented a 14th victory in the last 15 meetings with the U.S. Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan put Americans ahead in first half-hour. Luis Fabiano pulls one back 41 seconds after half-time and then levels score. Brazil come from two goals down to beat U.S. 3-2 in Confederations Cup final.

Five-time world champions Brazil needed to come from two goals down to beat underdogs the United States 3-2 in the final of the Confederations Cup in South Africa on Sunday night.

Captain Lucio headed an 84th-minute winner to end the hopes of the plucky Americans, who scored twice in the first half-hour in Johannesburg.

Clint Dempsey, with nfl jerseys who netted in the shock 2-0 win against European champions Spain in the semi-finals, put the U.S. ahead in the 10th minute.

A massive upset seemed to be on the cards when captain Landon Donovan doubled the lead in the 27th minute, but Brazil reduced the deficit just 41 seconds after the half-time break through Luis Fabiano.

The striker then leveled with his fifth goal of the tournament in the 74th minute before Lucio rose highest to ensure that Brazil retained the title.

Brazil went into the game seeking a massive improvement on their dismal showing in laboring to beat hosts South Africa 1-0 in the semi-finals.

But Bob Bradley’s U.S. team, beaten 3-0 by Brazil in the group stage, took a shock lead when Dempsey found space in the penalty area to guide home Jonathan Spector’s fierce right-wing cross for his third goal of the tournament.

Goalkeeper Tim Howard continued his fine form to keep the Brazilians at bay, then Donovan finished off a superb counter-attack that the South Americans would have been proud of.

The veteran, who earlier in the tournament said his worst footballing memory was a 7-0 drubbing by Brazil when playing for the U.S. under-23 side, set the speedy Charlie Davies free down the left. He then controlled the return pass to cut inside Ramires and slot past Julio Cesar — extending his national goalscoring record to 41.

Howard then saved a low angled shot from Fabiano, then the Sevilla forward headed over the bar 10 minutes before the interval.

But Fabiano struck a killer blow soon after the restart when otherwise-impressive U.S. defender Jay DeMerit allowed him to collect Kaka’s pass inside the penalty area and swivel to fire past a helpless Howard.

Brazil surged forward in search of an equalizer, and Real Madrid’s new signing Kaka thought he’d scored it when Howard beat out his downward header via the underside of the crossbar while the Everton keeper appeared to be behind the line.

However, the referee ruled otherwise to the Brazilian’s disgust, which seemed to be justified by television replays.

Howard denied Fabiano when clear through on goal in the 70th minute, but soon after the forward was on hand to poach the leveler. Kaka beat full-back Spector down the left and his low cross was deflected into the path of Robinho, who prodded the ball against the underside of the bar — and Fabiano headed home the rebound.

With the Americans visibly tiring, it was no surprise when Brazil claimed the winner.

Congratulations! Captain Lucio heads home the winner in the 84th minute as Brazil retain title. He is great and so is the team. The game is worth watching. Wonderful! Looking forward to watching next wonderful performance. More information in http://www.9ico.com

Glen Johnson completes 17 million Liverpool move

EPL:Jermain Defoe and Glen Johnson, Everton - Portsmouth (PA) Glen Johnson Portsmouth  NFL football jerseys

Glen Johnson has put pen to paper a four-year contract with Liverpool after completing his transfer from Portsmouth for a reported Ł17million. Glen Johnson completes his £28 million transfer from Portsmouth to Liverpool.

The Spaniard has pulled ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign the Portsmouth player after both sides had bids accepted by the south coast club over the weekend, while Manchester City are believed to have made a firm inquiry.
Johnson is thought to have made his preference for a move to Anfield clear after Portsmouth admitted they would not stand in his way if he wished to leave the club for Champions League football.
Two Liverpool bids, in the region of £12 million, were turned down by Portsmouth last summer and in January but Benitez is confident a £10 million fee paid over two years, plus an agreement to write off the £7 million the south coast club still owe for Peter Crouch, will be enough to land the former Chelsea player.
Benitez may sacrifice two full-backs to ensure he has the funds to bolster his attack as well, with Andrea Dossena edging closer to a £6 million move to Juventus.
Alvaro Arbeloa, the player Johnson would directly replace, could also be sold, with the Liverpool manager braced for an £8 million approach from Real Madrid once Spain’s involvement in the Confederations Cup ends.
Arbeloa has just 12 months left on his contract and, while Benitez had suggested he would be offered a new deal, his failure to sign one indicates his time on Merseyside is drawing to a close.
Benitez may yet  though, be able to fend off Real’s interest in playmaker Xabi Alonso. Florentino Perez, the new Madrid president, has suggested he would make an offer for the Basque but his sporting director, Jorge Valdano, said yesterday: “Liverpool have issued an official public statement and Xabi is a player who has little chance of joining Real Madrid.
“They valued him at £16 million last season because he was not an essential player, but he is now. They’ve given him more chances to play and he has responded magnificently.”
Part of the reason the Johnson deal cost so much was the premium now attached to English players. With regulations set to become tighter on the number of foreigners each side can field, Benitez knew he would have to pay a large sum for Johnson.

There have been critics, who shall remain fabulous and anonymous, of Rafa Benitez’s transfer policy in recent seasons, but when he gets it right, few can pick them better.Anyway, congratulations! Hope you play better and better. Looking forward to watching your wonderful performance!

Michael Joseph Jackson leaves the world

 Michael Joseph Jackson

Michael Jackson, one of the most widely beloved entertainers and profoundly influential artists of all-time, leaves an indelible imprint on popular music and culture.

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, entertainer and businessman. The eighth child of the Jackson family, he made his début onto the professional music scene at the age of 11 as a member of The Jackson 5 in 1969, and began a solo career in 1971 while still a member of the group. Jackson was referred to as the “King of Pop” in subsequent years; his 1982 album Thriller is the world’s best-selling record of all time and four other solo studio albums are also among the world’s best-selling records: Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and HIStory (1995).

In the early 1980s, he became a dominant figure in popular music and the first African American entertainer to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. The popularity of his music videos airing on MTV, such as “Beat It”, “Billie Jean” and “Thriller” — widely credited with transforming the music video from a promotional tool into an art form — helped bring the relatively new channel to fame. Videos such as “Black or White” and “Scream” made Jackson an enduring staple on MTV in the 1990s. With stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of physically complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style influenced many hip hop, pop and contemporary R&B artists. While Jackson was a member of Generation Jones, he had an impact on multiple generations.

(NFL jerseys)Jackson donated and raised millions of dollars for beneficial causes through his foundation, charity singles and support of 39 charities. Other aspects of his personal life, including his changing appearance and behavior, generated significant controversy, damaging his public image. Though he was accused of child sexual abuse in 1993, the criminal investigation was closed due to lack of evidence and Jackson was not charged. The singer had experienced health concerns since the early 1990s and conflicting reports regarding the state of his finances since the late 1990s. Jackson married twice and fathered three children, all of which caused further controversy. In 2005, Jackson was tried and acquitted of further sexual abuse allegations and several other charges.

One of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records—including one for “Most Successful Entertainer of All Time”—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career, and the sale of 750 million records worldwide. Jackson’s highly publicized personal life, coupled with his successful career, made him a part of popular culture for almost four decades. Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009, aged 50. The specific cause of death has yet to be determined. Before his death, Jackson had announced a 50-date sell-out This Is It comeback tour, in London, England.

Jackson’s death from cardiac arrest Thursday has sparked an outpouring of grief from fans, and his life has been given a more measured summing up by news media.

Commenting on his passing, Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman, CEO and President, Sony Corporation, said: “Michael Jackson was a brilliant troubadour for his generation, a genius whose music reflected the passion and creativity of an era. His artistry and magnetism changed the music landscape forever. We have been profoundly affected by his originality, creativity and amazing body of work. The entire Sony family extends our deepest condolences to his family and to the millions of fans around the world who loved him.”

Rolf Schmidt-Holtz, CEO, Sony Music Entertainment, said: “Michael Jackson’s unsurpassed artistry and beloved music brought joy to every corner of the world. We join today with his millions of fans in expressing our profound sadness and we offer our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. It was a true privilege for all of us in the Sony Music family to work with one of the most talented superstars in the history of music. We will miss him greatly.”

Martin Bandier, Chairman & CEO of Sony/ATV Music Publishing, said: “Michael was the kind of amazing talent that comes along once in a lifetime. He was an incredible recording artist, an insightful businessman, an unmatched performer, and a true icon.
